FAQ: Accelerate RTV Cure Time
How can the cure of a one-part room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) moisture cure silicone sealant be accelerated?
The cure of a one-part room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) moisture cure silicone sealant can be accelerated by adding heat and maintaining a moisture source. Many one-part RTV sealants can be cured faster than what is indicated on the data sheet. Data sheet values are based on room temperature cure, but each 10° Celsius temperature increase might cut the cure time in half. A heat cure above 60° Celsius is not recommended as evaporation of volatiles may cause voids or bubbles in the sealant. Cure schedule can vary depending on oven design, air flow, relative humidity and design of the part. Please test the silicone sealant cure schedule in your application.
